Why visit Banteay Srey?
One of the most impressive structures at Angkor is the Banteay Srey temple, which can be found around 29 kilometers (18 miles) to the northeast of Angkor Wat.
One of the rare temples in the Angkor region to have been commissioned not by a king but rather by a Brahman, Banteay Srey is believed to have been a tutor to Jayavarman V during his reign.
Banteay Srey temple is home to some of the most beautiful and elaborate carvings that can be found anywhere in Angkor.
One of the most, if not the most, decorated temples in the Angkor complex in Cambodia is called Banteay Srey. This Hindu temple in Cambodia dates back to the 10th century and is well-known for the stunning pinkish sandstone and complex wall carvings that it features.
The temple is dedicated to the god Shiva.
Banteay Srey, The Lady Temple, it is also referred to as The Jewel of Khmer Art. Many also call it the “pink temple.” Banteay Srey gets this nickname from the pinkish color of the sandstone that was used in its construction.
This sandstone is malleable and can be carved like wood. This helps explain why there are so many different kinds of ornamental embellishment spread across the entire building. Nearly every surface that may be used has elaborate depictions of various stories and designs on it.
The temple, located in an isolated region, was found again in 1914 and cleaned up around ten years after that. During the 1930s, it was restored by the French conservator Henri Marchal, who used the anastylosis process to put it back together again.
It is recommended that you go during the cooler parts of the day, which will also provide you with the best opportunity to capture some breathtaking pictures of the pink temple as the light changes.
